Soji Fasuba: I joined the navy because of my kids

Nigerian athletics legend, Olusoji Fasuba has revealed why he left athletics to join the Royal Navy.

Fasuba is currently the fastest African man of all time with his 9.85 seconds record in the 100m race yet to be broken.

In an exclusive interview session on FUBS, Family United by Sports, Fasuba said he retired from athletics because of his family.

“In 2010, I realised that I had to start making plans for my family and I couldnt let them (my kids) go through what I went. So I decided to position myself where i would give my kids a better future hence I joined the Navy.”

Fasuba in 2011 joined the Royal Navy as a logistician and has since become a qualified logistician.

The 35 year old won six medals in total for Nigeria which includes a bronze medal in the 4×100 relay race at the the 2004 Olympics in Athens.
