Sodje hails former side despite Man City mauling

Former Nigeria international Sam Sodje believes Watford deserve a lot of respect despite their 6-0 loss to Manchester City in the FA Cup Final.

Javi Gracia’s men were hoping to lift their first ever major piece of silverware after waiting 35 years to reach the final but were outclassed by Pep Guardiola’s side.

Despite the embarrassing scoreline, the former Watford defender feels the Hornets deserve accolades for finishing as runners-up.

“No disrespect to Watford because they played a lot of teams to get into the final so going this far is not a fluke. I think they deserve a lot of respect,” Sodje, who played for Watford in 2008 said.

“Manchester City are on another level and at the moment, they are unplayable.

“I played in the FA Cup a lot of times and it’s a very hard competition, so they have done nothing wrong – they only played against a better team.”

Watford were able to finish 11th in the English Premier League and the 39-year-old is hoping they sustain the pace next season.

“They didn’t just stay in the league, they finished high in the table and hopefully next season, they will just do the same.”
