Soccer stars football club of Agbor on Thursday defeated Star Peak FC 4-2 on Penalties to clinch the 2nd Edition of the Agbor Unity Cup. The match ended 0-0 in regulation time before the Coach Ali Idris tutored side prevailed in the resulting shootouts.
“It was a great Tournament and I really want to thank the Agbor football coaches and Directors, together with everyone who made this tournament a success, I sincerely thank the union Executive, the president, secretary and the treasurer for their immense contributions and direction to see that the tournament came out a success” Coach Alika Onyeka, Chairman of the Tournament organizing committee stated
“I will also not forget the man that made sure the tournament comes out as world class through media and publicity, no other person than the Oracle himself, Dr ken Gadaffi as well as all officiating team and the teams that participated in this second edition” He added
“Above all we give God all the glory and congratulations to the champions, Soccer Star FC, the Silver medalists Star peak and the Third place winner, WINNERS FC. Agbor football has really come of age” he concluded
The Tournament which was organized by the Agbor coaches and Directors union is in its second edition. The first edition played in October 2022 was won by Ihu-iyase FC after defeating WINNERS FC in the finals. The 2023 Anioma cup Champions got knocked out in the Quarter Finals while WINNERS FC finished in third place in this edition.
Soccer Stars were presented with Trophy, Gold medal and a cash award of #60,000 while second place Star peak received silver medals and cash award of #40,000. Winners FC were presented with Bronze medals and Cash award of 30,000 for their efforts.
All Participating teams received a Certificate of Participation. Twelve teams took part in the tournament which started on 11th February.
