Buruj Football Club is set to face the last FA Defending champion for their first match as a total of 94 football clubs made of 84 Men’s teams and 10 Women’s teams will battle for the two available titles in the 2020/2021 Winners Golden Bet / Lagos FA Cup.
The FA Cup matches will be played in all corners of the state starting from next week.
The Vice-Chairman of Lagos State Football Association, Otunba Tade Azeez, who expressed delight at the increased number of teams registered for the Lagos FA Cup, apologized for the disruption of last year’s edition of the Winners Golden Bet Lagos FA Cup due to COVID19, which prevented the state from presenting the state champions for the Aiteo Cup. The FA had to present the 2019 champions to play the 2021 Aiteo Cup.
He said; this year’s edition will be played in all parts of Lagos, as we want Lagosians to watch the state Men’s and Women’s clubs play football.
Otunba Azeez; “It’s heartwarming to have a total of 84 Men’s teams and 10 Women’s teams registered for the FA Cup.
“Games will be played simultaneously across venues in Lagos when the competition begins. Some of the designated venues are the Legacy Pitch, National Stadium, Lagos, Mobolojai Johnson Arena, Onikan, Navy Ground, Ajegunle, Amuwo Odofin Ground, Tolu, Ajegunle, Union Bank Sports ground, Nitel Ground, Oshodi, and other facilities in Ikorodu, Epe and Badagry.”
The Lagos FA Vice Chairman noted that players must be properly registered for the competition, and teams with branded jerseys by their sponsors should endeavor to notify the Lagos FA, as defaulters will be sanctioned.
The teams should also note that the jersey number of registered players can’t be changed midway into the competition. Players must use the same number from the beginning to the end according to International regulations.
The representative of the sponsors, Mr. Deji Beecroft, disclosed at the Lagos SWAN Secretariat venue of the event, that winners in the Men’s category will go home with a cash prize of 1 million Naira and runners up N500,000.
The champions of the Women’s competition will go home with a cash prize of N500,000, while second place takes home N300,000. He stressed that the Most Valuable Player Award with cash prizes for players will also be part of this year’s edition.
Beecroft added that the sponsors branded jerseys will be provided for all the teams in the two categories from the quarter-finals stage to the grand final.
The Winners Golden Bet representative noted that; since the company started bankrolling the Lagos FA Cup, the companies business improved tremendously, as the company climbed to the number two spot in the country in the Sportsnet business.
The Winners Golden Bet / Lagos FA Cup will kick off across the state next week.
