Smart City FC of Lagos on Saturday at the Teslim Balogun stadium won the inaugural edition of the GOAL football tournament for U-17 boys, after defeating Remo stars 5-4 on penalties after regulation time ended goalless.
The two-day football event which was put together by GOAL, to help young talented players to play in Major league soccer (MLS) in the united states of America, will also give the players the opportunity to study in the USA too.
The encounter which was watched by some top football dignitaries and members of the NFF, lived up to its billings, as both teams thrilled the spectators with some really beautiful and palatable football, but at the end of the day, the City were the lucky team that won the sole ticket to travel to America.
Speaking after the game, smart city president, Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka, said he is very elated with the victory and also the way his players conducted themselves on and off the pitch.
“God bless you all for this sweet victory. It shows your loyalty and dedication. I love you all. You will all never regret playing for our lovely team” he said.
“I also want to congratulate my big uncle, Alhaji Kamaldeen Olawoye for his fatherly role as the General manager, my appreciation also goes to my big coach, Osun, and my respected CEO Olowu and all management and coaches, I also congratulate our media man, Mr. Jerome, all the curators, and our teeming fans world wide, may God bless you all” he concluded.
Smart City U-17 team will later in the year travel to the United States of America, to participate in the Golden league cup.
