Smart city FC of Lagos, on Wednesday, consumed hard-fighting Magic stars FC 1-0 in an epic battle in a week 8 NLO clash.
The game which was played at the Teslim Balogun stadium, saw both sides, displaying some palatable football which the fans appreciated with so much joy and happiness.
The game which was keenly contested, amid high tension, saw smart city smiling home with all three points, as a defender, Habeeb Olaitan’s low strike from a freekick in the dying minutes of the game, found the bottom corner of the net, to break the hearts of the resilient magic stars players and fans who were present at the stadium.
Speaking to newsmen after the game, the coach of smart city, Gafari Mohammed, said, Magic stars gave a good fight, but that his boys showed real character till the end, which earned them the desired victory.
“Magic stars game is the toughest we have faced this season, and I want to say, I am heavily grateful to God and my players for this huge victory,” he said.
“This victory has further boosted our chances of gaining promotion to the NNL. I thank the management and staff for their unflinching support always, and we promise to continue to do our best to put smiles on their faces” he concluded.
Meanwhile, the scorer of the lone goal, Habeeb Olaitan, could not hide his joy.
“I am very grateful to God for this wonderful victory, I am not only elated about my goal, but I am also more happy we got all three points because our opponents were second on the log, so this victory means a lot to the team he said.
“We will continue to fight graciously till the end of the season, and by God’s grace, we will achieve our goal in the end” he concluded.
Meanwhile, with the victory against magic stars FC, city, has stretched their lead to 20 points from eight games, magic stars are second, with 11 points.
Smart City will battle with Iganmu FC in their next game.
