Smart city chairman, Adeboye Anthony Adeyinka, has showered encomiums on his players for lifting the maiden edition of the Lagos super 8 kings cup trophy.
City put up a resounding display all through the tournament to the delight of fans and scouts that come from various parts of the state and abroad.
City defeated hard fighting 36 lions 5-4 on penalties after regulation time ended 2-2.
Adeboye who was visibly elated, could not hide his joy for his players over the victory, as he rained massive praises to the team and also surprised them with huge match bonuses.
“I want to first give thanks to almighty God for this victory, I also appreciate my boys for putting up such a delicious display to win the trophy. They really played well and have shown their loyalty over the year” he said.
“We were runners up in the 2018 Lagos fa cup, in 2019, we won the fa cup and became the first academy team to reach the quater finals of the national Aiteo cup, now we have won the Lagos kings cup, it shows progress, and by the grace of God we will continue to give our best to make sure smart city becomes a global brand” he concluded.
Smart city defeated season rivals, box2box 1-0 in the semifinals while edging out Lions 5-4 on penalties in the finals, while Broadcity fc defeated box2box to claim the bronze medal.
The second edition of the Lagos super 8 kings cup tournament comes up in march 2022.
