Winning the Nigeria Women Premier League is an incredible feat for any player, but winning it twice with two different clubs is even a bigger achievement.
So thenwfl.com took a look at six players who have won the Nigerian Women Football league biggest prize, with two different teams.
(1) Mercy Akide (Delta Queens and Pelican Stars)
One of the most prolific striker in the Nigeria Women Premier League history, Mercy Akide won the league with both Ufuoma Babes, now called Delta Queens and Pelican Stars.
Joining Ufuoma Babes in 1995 from Jegede Babes, Mercy Akide’s 17 goals and 11 goals in the 1996 and 1997 league gave them the league title.
She joined Pelican Stars in 1998, scoring 9 goals and winning the league title for the third time in 1999, before jetting out to the United State of America.
(2) Evelyn Nwabuoku (Bayelsa Queens & Rivers Angels)
Evelyn Nwabuoku left Bayelsa Queens in 2009 having previously won the NWPL title with the ‘Restoration Girls’ twice in 2006 and 2007. The former Super Falcons captain played a pivotal role in the successful era of Rollanson Odeh.
At Rivers Angels, the former Envant De Guigamp midfielder won four league titles (2010, 2014, 2015) including the most recent one in 2019. She is no doubt one of the most decorated player in the history of the Nigeria Women Football League.
(3) Joy Jegede (Pelican Stars, Delta Queens & Bayelsa Queens)
Joy Jegede joined Pelican Stars at a very young age in 2002 and won the league with them that same year.
The following year, she joined Delta Queens and helped them win the league title in 2003, 2008 and 2009 during the successful era of Dan Evumena.
After eleven years with Delta Queens, including stint with Belarusian premiership side Bobruichanka Bobruisk, the Super Falcons defender moved to Bayelsa Queens, where she won the title again in 2018.
(4) Josephine Mathias (Nasarawa Amazons & Rivers Angels)
The Rivers Angels midfielder left Nasarawa Amazons to join the ‘Jewels of Rivers’ in the summer of 2017 after playing a huge role in the ‘Solid Babes’ triumph at the Super 4 in Benin.
Mathias also played a monumental role as Rivers Angels won the NWPL title at the just concluded 2019 Super 4 in Lagos.
(5) Cecilia Nku (Bayelsa Queens & Rivers Angels)
Cecilia Nku’s size has never been a barrier for her at the midfield, the midfielder is one of the few players in the Nigeria Women Premier League that have won the league title with different clubs. The former Medkila IL of Norway player joined Rivers Angels after winning two league titles with Bayelsa Queens and have also won the league title three times with Rivers Angels.
(6) Tochukwu Oluehi (Bayelsa Queens and Rivers Angels)
Tochukwu Oluehi joined Bayelsa Queens as a very young goalkeeper and did well under the tutelage of Rollandson Odeh.
Though an understudy to Precious Dede and Chioma Adaba, She was part of the squad that won the 2006 and 2007 Nigeria Women Premier League with Bayelsa Queens before leaving for Sunshine Queens in 2011. She won the league with Rivers Angels in 2015 and 2019.
