Super Eagles’ Russia 2018 World Cup star, Simoen Tochukwu Nwankwo (Simy) has become the third Nigerian to sign for SK Lokeren of Belgium, following a three-year deal he sealed on Monday.

Sports247.ng reports that, in making the move to Lokeren, ‘Simy’ takes after former Eagles goalkeeper, Peter Rufai and ex-striker-turned-coach, Samson Yebowei Siasia in signing the dotted lines for the modest club.

It also marks an end of his romance with relegated Italian club, Crotone, who are now toiling in the second-tier Serie B.

‘Simy,’ who played as a late substitute in Nigeria’s opening group 2-0 loss against Croatia at Russia 2018, but did not get a further role, failed to replicate his heroics of last season with Crotone.

He pooped into reckoning with Crotone towards the end of the term, with seven goals in the last eight games of the season, which ultimately earned him a call up to the Eagles.

Though ‘Simy’ could not save Crotone from taking the drop, he appeared to be a cult figure in the team, due to his goals and massive height, but his fortunes have taken a massive dip so far this term.

‘Simy’ has only four goals in 17 games this season and has fallen out of favour with the the coach, hence his decision for the switch to Lokeren.

Lokeren had earlier returned to their Nigerian connections by signing little known Yusuf Lawal, who will now be joined by 26-year old ‘Simy’ for the restart of the top-flight season in Belgium.
