Former Super Eagles coach, Samson Yebowei Siasia has warned that the Super Eagles cannot afford to underrate Libya in next weekend’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier, as he says the visitors will be all out to cause an upset.
Siasia, who failed to qualify Nigeria for AFCON 2012 and 2017, as head coach and interim handler respectively, said the Eagles will have to be careful of the threat posed by Libya.
Speaking to sports247.ng ahead of Saturday’s first leg in Uyo, Sia1 said the Eagles must face the reality of Libya’s ambition to also make it to AFCON 2019 in Cameroon.
He added that the Eagles must get to know what the Libyans’ strength and weaknesses, in order to have an idea of what to expect from The Mediterranean Knights when both sides meet.
Nigeria will host the first leg at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday 13th October with the return leg scheduled for the 18,000 –capacity Stade Taïeb Mhiri in the city of Sfax, Tunisia on Tuesday 16th October.
Heading into the first match next Saturday, Siasia stressed: “The two games will be very difficult and keenly contested because the Libyans have ambition following their impressive performance in the first two group games.
“The Super Eagles mustn’t underrate them. If they are complacent, that will be suicidal to the team’s quest to qualify for the 2019 AFCON in Cameroon.”
