In an electrifying showdown, Shuffle Select Football Academy defied expectations by defeating Arewa Warrior Football Academy in the final of the Agege U-15 Developmental Championship.

The intense match took place on Saturday at the NYSC Camp football pitch in Iyana-Ipaja, Alimosho, Lagos, culminating in a 5-4 penalty shootout victory for Shuffle Select after a goalless draw in regulation time.
Arewa Warrior entered the final as the favorites, having impressed spectators and critics alike with their dominant performances throughout the tournament.
However, Shuffle Select rose to the challenge, demonstrating resilience and tactical prowess that kept the match balanced and fiercely contested.
From the outset, both teams exhibited commendable skill and determination, creating numerous scoring opportunities. Despite their efforts, neither side managed to convert their chances, leading to a nail-biting penalty shootout to determine the champion.
The tension was palpable as each team took turns at the penalty spot, but Shuffle Select ultimately emerged victorious, sealing their triumph with a narrow 5-4 scoreline.
Following the victory, Shuffle Select’s Coach, Ashifat Abolore, expressed his joy and relief, noting the toughness of the match and attributing their win to a combination of hard work and a bit of luck.
“It was a tough encounter, but the boys showed great character and composure during the penalties. We are fortunate to have come out on top,” Abolore remarked.
The post-match presentation ceremony was a celebratory affair, with awards distributed to outstanding players for their exceptional performances throughout the tournament. All participating teams received certificates of participation, acknowledging their contributions and efforts.
In addition to the trophy and medals, Shuffle Select’s triumph earned them a cash prize of N60,000, while the first runner-up, Arewa Warrior, received N40,000.
Certificates of appreciation were also presented to invited guests who played significant roles in supporting the development of football in Agege and its environs.
Olumide Ajayi, Leader of the Agege Football Coaches Council, delivered a heartfelt vote of thanks, commending his council members for their dedication and hard work.
He also expressed gratitude to the guests, whose presence and financial support were instrumental in ensuring the success of this year’s championship.
The 2024 Agege U-15 Developmental Championship will be remembered not just for its competitive spirit, but for showcasing the future stars of Nigerian football.
