The coach of Raptors flag football team, Michael Akpan has hailed the role played by his defence in ensuring victory over Ikan Sports in week three of the ongoing Showtime Summer Series 2025 at Lekki, Lagos and enthused that it showed his squad are ready to clinch the title.

Although his team appeared to struggle in a tight 6-0 victory in one of Sunday’s epic games at Showtime Arena, Coach Akpan told Sports247 afterwards that Raptors were able to show their title-winning potential through a lot of neat work in their defence line.
He added, “We pulled through, and a win is a win. I give all praise and trust to my defence. This shows we can win the title. Like they say, defence wins championships and offence wins games.”
Coach Akpan also took a closer look at the run of play in Sunday’s pulsating game and, while submitting that Ikan Sports gave away some points carelessly, he noted that the overall force of Raptors’ players ultimately gave them victory.
“Ikan Sports helped us with some drops, but our defence was ready when they ran at us. We had a lot of anticipation in defence, and they tried earnestly. At each drive, Ikan Sports tried to pull deep, but my defence was always ready. They were ready, evidently.
Every play of our defence was good. That shows Raptors will be ready to clinch the championship this year,” Coach Akpan affirmed.
