LA Knights’ wide receiver and centre, Maudlin Julius is relishing her side’s 48-14 victory over Panthers in week three of Showtime Summer Series 2025, and reasoned that her personal efforts in the game showed that she is good enough to be part of Nigeria’s flag football national team.
Sports247 gathered that, with the innovative competition sanctioned by Nigeria Flag Football Federation (NFFF) and recognised by Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) drawing attention every Sunday at Showtime Arena in Lekki, Lagos, speculation is growing that there could be better exposure and rewards in store for the players.
Maudlin admitted that she is eager for personal glory, especially in the national team, but stated in a chat with Sports247 that her thoughts for now are about how to help LA Knights maintain their winning form in the competition, which is also known as Showtime Flag Football League (SFFL).
While acknowledging that LA (Lagos Athletics) Knights have continued waxing strong for three seasons, Maudlin admitted they had a shake start to Sunday’s game against Panthers, but pointed out that they were able to win eventually because the players reminded themselves about the tactics they learnt during preparations for the game.
Maudlin Julius added: “We’ve done a great job, and we’ve put in a lot of work for like three seasons. The work we are doing pays, and we’ve been able to keep winning. This victory, though, was a little different because it started off in a shaky way, and we were kind of confused.
“We then asked ourselves, ‘What’s happening? This is not what we practised for this match. We must do better.’ That’s why the first half was a draw, but we came back strong for the second half. The game was hectic at first, but we came back strong, as we should.”
The excitable lass then spoke about her projections for the team and herself, stressing that the essence of featuring in the competition is to gain lots of glory on both individual and collective levels.
She declared, “I hope we go on like this for the rest of the season. Personally, I want to stand out this season. I want to play like I’m being paid and I must work for it. I’ve been practising, putting in the work, and the team is also working hard. So, I want people to see what we are made of on the field here. Let them come and watch my glory shine on the field.”
Maudlin Julius then concluded with a recap of how she ventured into flag football as well as her immediate target in the sport and what she is aiming at, to confirm her advancement in the coed variant of American Football that entails male and female players battling together during the same game.
“I got into flag football through NAPHER school. Since then, there have been no regrets for me. I never regretted it from the first day. I saw it as a beautiful sport at first and it’s still beautiful up till now. So, I don’t have any regrets at all. Right now, I’m thinking that I’m good enough to play for Nigeria at the Olympics, but let’s get there first,” Maudlin conceded.
