In a chat with Sports247 after the game, LA Knights’ standout player Afeye Momoh admitted that Off SZN Athletics made them work hard for the win.
“It was a bit of the best from both sides. We came in looking to make a statement and dominate, but unfortunately, we had a slow first half,” Momoh said.
“Thankfully, we picked things up in the second half and managed to get the job done. We’ll take the lessons from this game and improve in the next one. Overall, it wasn’t a bad game.” Momoh told Sports247.
Off SZN Athletics, considered underdogs heading into the matchup, surprised many with two early touchdowns, putting the Knights on the back foot.
“On our end, we’re a bit disappointed,” Momoh added.
“Kudos to Off SZN – they showed they came to battle. They’re not pushovers, and credit must be given to them.”
” That said, we made some mistakes, dropped balls and missed clear chances. We’ll work on correcting those before our next game.” Momoh stated.
With the Knights still unbeaten in the competition, Momoh spoke confidently about the team’s momentum.
“We know we have a strong team, and we challenge ourselves every week to win. So far, it’s going well, and we’ll do everything we can to keep the streak alive.”
On the broader growth of Flag Football in Nigeria, particularly with the Showtime Flag Football League’s rapid development, Momoh expressed excitement and pride.
“I started playing in the Flag Football League three years ago, and it’s grown massively. We’ve got our own jerseys, our own field, and now a real community, hundred of people coming out to watch. I never saw this coming. Big kudos to the Showtime team and everyone behind this movement.”
Momoh is optimistic of Nigeria making to the next Olympics, ” I think Nigeria is ready. We’re planning to reach the Olympics one day, and hopefully, we’ll build a great team for that. Overall, I’m really impressed.”
The Showtime Flag Football League continues to gain momentum as a rising sport in Nigeria, drawing attention for its organization, competitiveness, and potential to make a global impact.
