The defensive safety player of Warriors flag football team, Chuey Chu has reflected on his side’s 58-53 loss to Spartans in the 2024 Showtime Bowl Series final and submitted that it was an off day for his squad.
Chu added in an interview with sports247.ng that his team became mentally weak at a point during the Showtime Flag Football League (SFFL) final, which held last Sunday at Meadow Hall, Lekki, Lagos.
The soft-spoken flag football zealot reasoned further that the defeat was not because his side did not put in their best, but conceded that luck was not on their side against the defending champions.
Chu pointed out, “I think we just made a lot of mental mistakes, and it just wasn’t our day.
“The guys put in a lot of work, but we weren’t really thinking about the Spartans.
“We were thinking just about ourselves and what we could do, but that’s not an excuse. It was just one of our off days.”
The defensive safety then turned focus on the next line of action for his squad, paramount of which he admitted is to make corrrections in areas where they erred.
“We have to sit back, calm down, watch the tape, and then really decide what to do about the mistakes we made.
“We will take time out to reflect, relax ourselves, and we can for sure see what our mistakes were, then come back better,” Chu acceded.
He concluded by ruling himself out of getting involved in serious flag football action due to his age, but believes he could be a mentor to younger ones around him.
“For me personally, honestly, I don’t think, at my age, that flag football is a sport I can do professionally.
“But, the target I’ve already set for myself is to inspire the younger generation.
“I want to encourage them to take it up at an early age. That way, they will surely compete with the Americans who invented this sport,” Chu enthused.
