Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan came to Lagos and picked up a handsome 3-0 win against Stationery Stores FC in what can be referred to as the oldest fixture and rivalry in Nigerian football but a certain seasoned coach, Bala Madaki has analyzed the game and believes Shooting Stars were not special while speaking to Sports247.
“So far so good, from what I saw in the first half, Shooting Stars are not so special and are not good enough to defeat Stationery Stores FC,” Bala said.
“Their defense line were flat-footed and did not have the basics on the ball so I don’t see why stationery Stores lost the game. Assuming stationery Stores had sharp attackers and a solid center-back pairing, they wouldn’t have lost the game. But I believe before midseason, Stores will make corrections where they have lapses and will do better because their coach is an experienced coach,” Bala added.
Bala Madaki is a coach who has decided to go into grassroots football to help find, develop and nurture talents to become future stars and he believes if he handles a league side, they will succeed.
“I believe that if I have the opportunity to handle a Nigerian league side I’ll do very well because it’s all about the opportunity to deliver. The most difficult teams to handle our grassroots teams. If you can handle a team in Lagos state GTBank Principals Cup for instance, then it will be easy to handle some other league teams,” said Mr Bala.
When asked what he felt should be changed or addressed in the Stationary Stores FC team in order to change their tides if he was the coach, Bala Madaki said, “they have to work on the left-back and right back of the defense and majorly the center of the defense. The midfield is ok but in the attack, they need to have strong fighters who can create space and shoot to score when they get the chance.”
Bala Madaki also believes that Stationery Stores FC has what it takes to gain promotion if they do what is needed, make tactical corrections, and bring in about five players to boost the squad as well.
