A score draw in Day Two of the Third Dapo Abiodun Cup was enough to take the Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan to top of the Group A with four points.
The Edith Agoye-tutored boys played a score draw against Gateway FC with Shooting Stars’ Ayo Adejubu scoring the opening goal of the match. Gateway FC Emmanuel Orji drew level for the two teams to share points.
The additional one point was enough to take the Oluyole Warriors to the summit of the table with four points.
Ijebu United’s opportunity of going to the top of the table after their sparkling opening victory was punctuated by Kwara United that defeated them 1-0. Kwara United needed to beat Ijebu United to stay in contention. Kwara United’s goal was scored by Kabiru Balogun in the 34th minute to record their first three points and third-place standing on the table. Ijebu United’s yesterday victory gave them the leverage to stay in the second position with three points.
Gateway Fc are in the fourth position with one point, courtesy of today’s 1-1 draw against Shooting Stars.
In Group B, Ndubuisi
Pascal’s 65th minute and Obasi Dennis’s 68th-minute goals were enough to push MFM FC of Lagos to the summit of the group with four points, as they whitewash Ottasolo FC. Ottasolo must win or draw any of their games which put them at the bottom of the table with zero point and a near elimination from the competition.
For tomorrow’s games which is Day Three of the competition, Sunshine Stars will confront Niger Tornadoes in group B. Still in Group B, Remo Stars will battlegroup leader MFM FC for the soul of the group. Any of the team that wins, will top the table and have the opportunity of going straight to the knockout stage.
In Group A, Ijebu United on second place will slug it out against table-toppers Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan. The winner of the match will stand out as a sure qualifier for the next stage of the Dapo Abiodun Cup. The encounter will be very tough.
While the match between Kwara United and Gateway Fc at 3.30 pm on Thursday at the main bowl of the Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode is a battle for teams at the bottom of the table. A win for Kwara United and a loss or draw for the match between Ijebu United and Shooting Stars will rearrange the table with a possible climb to the top of the table.
All four matches on Thursday are game-changers depending on where the pendulum swings.
