Curtain will fall on the maiden edition of the Evolution Cup on Saturday when SGFC Athletics lock horns with Beyond Limits for the ultimate prize at the Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne, Ogun State.
Expectedly, the last leg of the group stage matches played on Friday was characterised by twists, turns and thrills to the delight of fans and supporters alike.
Earlier in the day, Abraysports FC played out a 1-1 draw with Magic Stars in a game that could be described as ‘stakeless’ encounter- just another battle to further see how the teams would fare going forward.
For the first time in the tournament, Beyond Limits were knocked off the balance as they lost 4-3 to Rolly FC in the second game of the day.
Although, it was their first defeat in the championship, the team had already escaped all the ‘scare’ with an advantage of nine points secured after winning its last three games.
Eventually, they would later leverage on goal difference which set them apart from Right2Win FC who also had nine points, to seal up their place in the final.
While everything still appeared up for grabs till the last game in Group A, it was 10- man SGFC Athletics with their 1 nil victory over Olukismet FC that picked up the sole final ticket in the group.
Ilaji FC, who were also keen to reach the final with their five secured points going into the last game were treated to a tough moment when they tackle Hammola FC.
While a win with some goals advantage could have put Ilaji FC in a competitive edge for the final ticket, the battle against the Osun State based side which ended 3-3 had pushed them out of equation.
However, it’s going to be an all exciting moments on Saturday at 9am when SGFC Athletics and Beyond Limits face-off in the final of the tournament organised to help NLO teams have adequate preparation ahead of the new season.
The competition is sponsored by Alphakay International Sports and packaged by Sportsflames Communications.
Meanwhile, in a bid to recognize and appreciate their contributions to football development in Nigeria , the organisers of the tournament would also be giving out awards of excellence to six football personalities on the final day.
