The pinnacle of the 2023 SFFL Showtime Flag Football League unfolded at the Meadow Hallway, Alma Beach, Lagos, where the Spartans clashed with the Lagos Rebels in a riveting final.
The match, which showcased intense competition and excitement, drew the largest live audience ever witnessed in an African flag football game.
Ultimately, Spartans FC emerged victorious, securing a resounding 49-18 triumph over Lagos Rebels FC.
Reflecting on the game’s success, Azeez Amida emphasized the significance of the recent Olympic recognition and pledged to further popularize the league in Nigeria.

“We are thrilled by the interest people are showing in the sport, and the only thing we can do is to keep encouraging our players to keep improving their game,” he affirmed.
Commissioner Adejumo Adebare announced ambitious plans for the league’s expansion in the upcoming season, aiming to increase the participating teams to 16. Adebare commended the professionalism displayed by all 10 teams during the 11-week season and expressed optimism about the sport’s future.
“This year’s final has shown that there is a bright future in the sport. The awareness drive is already there, and more youths are embracing Flag Football in Nigeria,” he declared.
In recognition of their outstanding performance, Spartans received a generous reward, including a N2.5 million cash prize, a Championship ring, and a prestigious giant trophy.
