Utibe Ayi, owner of Ikan Sports and team player, has expressed confidence in her team’s strategy and performance following their commanding 54-06 victory over Lagos Alpha in Week 2 of the Showtime Flag Football season.
In an interview with Sports247, Ayi shared insights into the team’s game plan, stating, “Yes, the only thing is we did plan on having a mercy rule. We were one point short of that. But we did pretty well based on what we planned.”
Ikan Sports is making its debut in the Showtime league this season, yet they have started strong with back-to-back wins. Ayi emphasized the importance of team mentality in securing their latest victory. “Everybody just came in with a winning mindset. That’s it. Everyone played together as a team, and we had one goal: to win—and not just win, but win by a huge margin.”
Despite their impressive performance, Ayi acknowledged areas for improvement, particularly in offense. “We’re a zero-drop team for offense, but we had a few plays where our receivers lost possession in the end zone. We’ll work on securing deep passes and getting more female touchdowns.”
As a new team, Ikan Sports continues to develop its chemistry, with Ayi optimistic about their growth throughout the season. “We’re building chemistry. What we have is good, but we can definitely be better. The more we play, the stronger our synergy will get.”
Looking ahead, Ayi remains focused on the ultimate goal: “It’s go hard or nothing. My personal goal is to get my team into the top four, make the playoffs, and win the championship.”
With a structured approach that includes practice sessions and game strategy reviews, Ikan Sports aims to solidify its presence in the Showtime Flag Football league and compete at the highest level.
