A prominent player in flag football, Christopher Nwadike says he is excited and delighted with how the game is growing very fast in Nigeria.
Nwadike, who plays for Warriors flag football club, disclosed as much in an exclusive interview with Sports247, during which he also revealed that he is always happy when he sees a large number of fans turning up to watch their games.

He further eulogised the efforts being marshalled by the foubders and organisers of Showtime Flag Football League (SFFL) to ensure that the sport continues growing in leaps and bounds all across Nigeria.
However, despite hailing the impressive growth of flag football in Nigeria, Nwadike, whose team went unbeaten all through the regular season last year but lost the final game tagged Showtime Bowl 2024, reckoned that more effort must be undertaken by individuals and groups to ensure the new event spreads further.
He added, “In order to bring more people to flag football, basically, we have to improve social media presence for the sport. We have to post and repost whatever Showtime is posting. Let’s also invite our friends, family and colleagues to watch these games.
“Let’s do everything just to make sure flag football grows further in Nigeria. It’s actually growing fast, and I’m proud of it. I’m also happy with the opportunity to be able to come here every Sunday and every other day of the week, practising and playing.”
He also spoke about some personal efforts he and other players have put in to ensure flag football continues on an upward swing in Lagos, with high potential of becoming a household venture across Nigeria in few years to come.
“Sometimes we invite our friends to come practise with us, just to spread the word about flag football further. To be honest, it’s growing fast … compared to how we started five, six years ago. With that foundation and those that started this league for us, I believe what we’ve all done is not in vain. Flag football is growing, not just in Lagos, also in Abuja and other parts of Nigeria. It’s something to look forward to,” Nwadike enthused.
Sports247 gathered further that the innovative sport, which is a variant of American football, is a coed game that is played by male and females combined together within each team against another.
However, instead of tackling each other to the ground, as seen in American football and rugby, each player will try to get a flag off the body of an opponent holding the ball and points are awarded for each successful snatch, after which the team with the larger number of opponents’ flags collected during the stipulated game time is declared the winner.
