Putting aside his transfer conundrum, big money Saudi Arabia offer, and contract extension with Serie A defending champions, Victor Osimhen made sure Rudi Garcia’s reign was one to remember with his brace seeing off newcomers Frosinone.
Today the 2023/24 Serie A season kicked off with a double fixture, newcomers, Frosinone welcomed defending champions, Napoli to the Stadio Benito Stirpe, while Empoli also played host to Hellas Verona in a parallel fixture.
The Italian champions picked up where they left off at the end of last season’s triumphant campaign with Victor Osimhen banging in the goals and Napoli winning, to begin their title defense under a new manager.
Matteo Politano got Napoli‘s first goal of the season but in no time, it was canceled out by Frosinone’s early advantage from Abdou Harroui’s spot-kick.
Last season’s Serie A top scorer then helped himself to a superbly taken brace as the Azzurri ran out 3-1 winners.
Osimhen became the leading marksman in Europe’s top five leagues this year after scoring his brace.
The Nigeria international had gone level with Harry Kane after scoring his first and Napoli’s second in the match.
But he became the outright leader after scoring his second, taking his tally to 19 league goals this year, one more than Kane.
Up next, Rudi Garcia’s side will be reunited with their fans at the Stadio Maradona next weekend with Sassuolo providing the opposition.
