Member Senate House Committee on Sports, Senator Moses Cleopas has assured Nigerians of successful passing of the University of Sports bill before the end of the 9th Assembly.
Senator Cleopas who spoke shortly after the plenary in Abuja; highlighted the importance of the bill if passed into law.
He noted that if the bill scaled through, it would provide employment opportunities for youths in different areas, adding that the initiative would develop youths in various sporting endeavors.
The lawmaker explained that the nation’s sports sector has huge potential and requires a high level of technical, scientific, and administrative skills to drive it.
He also said it would further advance knowledge through research and nurture unique innovations in sporting science and technology.
Senator Cleopas urged universities and other institutions in the country to introduce a curriculum that would harness the latent potential of young sportsmen and women in order to breach the gap.
The bill which is sponsored by Senator Obinna Ogba from Ebonyi State is expected to witness more deliberation when the Senate reconvened.
