On Tuesday, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo expressed the Bayelsa State Government’s deep concern over the declining performance of its professional football league teams, Bayelsa United FC and Bayelsa Queens FC.
The Deputy Governor conveyed these concerns during separate meetings with the management and players of both teams at the Government House in Yenagoa.

Senator Ewhrudjakpo highlighted the disappointment with the teams’ current season, citing a noticeable drop in performance compared to previous seasons.
He specifically addressed the unexpected losses by Bayelsa Queens FC, a team known for rarely dropping points when playing at home in earlier seasons.

The Deputy Governor emphasized that the purpose of the meetings was to understand the reasons behind the teams’ subpar performance and to work collaboratively on solutions.
He reiterated the Bayelsa State government’s unyielding commitment to developing the sports sub-sector and encouraged both teams to redouble their efforts to reclaim their esteemed positions in the Nigerian Professional Football League.
In attendance at the meetings were Dr. Daniel Igali, the Commissioner of Youths and Sports Development, Mr. Ebiki Timitimi, Chairman of Bayelsa United, and Pastor Robin Apreala, Chairman of Bayelsa Queens.
The discussions, which later moved into closed-door sessions, aimed to address the challenges faced by the teams and explore strategies for a turnaround in their performance.
