Promises made should be fulfilled in LIFE no matter what, that is called INTEGRITY. But the reverse is the case of the Cross River State Government.
The aftermath of the Non payment of the players of Pelican Stars resurfaces again as the promise made to pay up all the arrears of salaries and match bonus by the Governor of Cross River State, His Excellency Prof. Ben Ayade last week were mere fallacies.
Yesterday, Friday 17th April, 2020 would be a very memorable day for the Pelican Star players as succour was rained on them.
Honourable Essien Ayi, a PDP senator representing Akpabuyo/Bakassi/Calabar South federal Constituency in Cross River State gave a surprise visit to the camp of Pelican Stars of Calabar.
Senator Ayi was pained to see the players of the most successful women club in Nigeria, Pelican Stars in a pitiable state.
In his maganimosity, Senator Ayi donated three 50kg bag of rice, one big bag of garri (cassava dough), ten packs of bottled water, eight packs of plastic bottled soft drinks and two cartons of canned malt.
As if that was not enough, the good Samaritan (Ayi) donated a sum of N100, 000 in cash to the players to take care of themselves.
Senator Ayi expressed his grievances on the non payment of outstanding monies owed by the State Government of Cross River State.
He stated, “if the Cross River State Government cannot run the Stated owed women club side, that the team should be disbanded.
He appealed to the Cross River State Government to pay off the players of their owed monies if they are no more interested in the team.
The players of Pelican Stars of Calabar were elated and thanked Senator Essien Ayi.
As at the time of compiling this report, the Cross River State Government are yet to fulfill the payment of player of Pelican Star since June 2019 till date as they promised last week.
