Semiat Mustapha Opeyemi emerged as a standout during the Nigerian Women League Super Six held at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, six weeks ago.
Despite her youth, Semiat’s commanding presence and exceptional refereeing skills at the center of high-profile matches underscored her promising future in football officiating.
As an undergraduate at the University of Lagos, where she attained Grade One certification in 2020, Semiat’s approach to refereeing was nothing short of exemplary.
Her ability to make sound decisions, collaborate effectively with assistant referees and the fourth official, and maintain control over the game earned her accolades from assessors and members of the NFF Referees Committee.
Semiat’s impressive performance in Yenagoa paved the way for her invitation to the FIFA MA Course for Young Talent Referees in Abuja.
This opportunity not only reflects her growing stature within Nigerian refereeing circles but also highlights the effective grassroots training provided by the Oyo Referees Society and Oyo State Referees Council.
“I am grateful for the chance to learn and grow through the Young Talent Course,” Opeyemi expressed. “It’s an honor to represent Nigeria and to contribute to the advancement of women’s football officiating.”
Semiat Mustapha Opeyemi’s rapid ascent and dedication to her craft make her a name to watch in the world of Nigerian women’s refereeing. With continued support and development, she is poised to make significant strides on both the national and international stages, embodying the future of refereeing excellence in Nigeria.
