Rotherham United of England coach, Paul Warne has disclosed that the club’s Nigerian defender, Semi Ajayi was able to score two headers at the weekend because he has improved his timing at aerial balls.
While Warne admitted that Ajayi’s height was also a huge advantage in helping him net twice with his head in a 3-2 victory against Blackburn Rovers, sports247.ng reports that the gaffer stressed that the Super Eagles rookie was able to add accurate timing to his leaps.
Warne also disclosed the role he played in helping Ajayi discover a new asset in his game, as the coach has pushed the lad further up-field, from his previous role in central defence, and keeps giving him crucial advice.
Ajayi continues lining out as a holding midfielder for The Rs, mostly due to the return of fellow-Nigerian defender, Michael Ihiekwe from his loan spell at Accrington Stanley, but Warne believes the instructions and strict directives he gives the Eagles youngster have helped him a lot.
Warne added that he is delighted to see Ajayi has scored three goals in his last two appearances for The Millers and four in seven games.
During that period, Ajayi, who first starred for Nigeria at under-20 team level, has also helped the team stay unbeaten in their last six outings.
Rotherham’s gaffer beamed: “Semi to score two headers has put a smile on my face. I give him no end of the stick.
“He’s got a great leap, his timing’s been a lot better and I’m pleased for him because he’s had a really good season.
“The overall feeling is that we could play better, but it’s all about results at this time of the season.”
