Rotherham United of Engfland defensive midfielder, Semi Ajayi has received a massive boost, heading into his outing with the Super Eagles across the international break, as he has been named player No.1 in the English Championship to-50 rankings.
After several weeks of Nigeria’s absence on the cards, as Stoke City’s Ogheneklaro Etebo and Middlesbrough’s John Mikel Obi failed to make the cut, sports247.ng reports that Ajayi’s remarkable goals scoring form has now taken him top of the chart.
This comes after Ajayi scored his sixth goal in five league games during The Millers’ 2-1 defeat to Norwich City on Saturday, having hit scoring form since being detailed from central defence into defensive midfield.
Behind Ajayi, Norwich midfielder Emiliano Buendia (No 3) retained his place among the top performers, while Kenny McLean (No 7) soared into the top 10 after breaking the deadlock at the New York Stadium.
John McGinn secured runner-up spot after doubling Aston Villa’s lead in a 3-0 win over Middlesbrough – having scored a winning double during a 3-1 win at Nottingham Forest in midweek.
Another Nigerian presence comes later on, as Sheffield Wednesday duo Dominic Iorfa (No 9) and Steven Fletcher (No 10) were among the goals during a 4-2 win at Blackburn RFovers.
