Sanusi Commends Stakeholders as 2025 Nigeria Beach Soccer League Kicks Off in Birnin Kebbi

The General Secretary of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr. Mohammed Sanusi (MON), has applauded beach soccer stakeholders across the country for their dedication and support in promoting the sport. The 2025 Nigeria Beach Soccer League (NBSL), now in its fifth season, commenced with Round One matches on Monday, March 31, in Birnin Kebbi, the capital of Kebbi State.

Eight teams are in contention for the championship title this season: defending champions Kebbi Fishers BSC, Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors, Kebbi United BSC, Kada BSC (Kaduna State), Nmanko Patigi BSC (Kwara State), Jigawa Golden Star BSC, Ibom BSC (Akwa Ibom State), and Niger BSC.

Dr. Sanusi, who witnessed the opening round, expressed his appreciation for the League Management, led by Mahmud Hadejia, as well as the NFF Beach Soccer and Futsal Committee. He also acknowledged the contributions of the Kebbi State Government and the Kebbi State Football Association.

“It has been a glamorous event, and we give thanks to God for that. Alhaji Mahmud Hadejia, who serves as the President of the African Beach Soccer Union (ABSU) and Coordinator of the NBSL, has done an outstanding job. We are incredibly proud of his efforts in Kebbi State and across Nigeria,” Sanusi remarked.

He further praised the Governor of Kebbi State for his continued support and urged the state government to sustain its backing of beach soccer. Additionally, he commended Alhaji Abubakar Chika Ladan, Chairman of the Kebbi State Football Association, for his longstanding dedication to football development.

“We encourage the Kebbi State Government to provide him with the full support needed to succeed. We also appreciate the people of Kebbi State for their unwavering support of beach soccer and the state’s football association. The media has also played a crucial role in promoting the game. Football and beach soccer are no longer just recreational activities; they serve as tools for combating social vices and creating employment opportunities. We urge young people to embrace sports as a positive alternative to social misconduct,” he added.

The participating teams have been divided into two groups of four. Defending champions and three-time winners Kebbi Fishers BSC are in Group A alongside Anambra Beach Soccer Warriors, Nmanko Patigi BSC, and Ibom BSC. Meanwhile, 2022 champions Kada BSC will compete in Group B against Kebbi United BSC, Niger BSC, and Jigawa Golden Star BSC.

This season will unfold in three rounds, hosted in Kebbi, Kaduna, and Anambra States. The top three teams from each group will progress to the decisive Super Six Finals, set to take place in Akwa Ibom in December
