Former Super Eagles midfielder, Sani Kaita has avoided possible prosecution by National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP), as the body says the matter between him and Miss Esther Emiola is not within the scope of their operations.
Rather than wade into matter, sports247.ng can report that NAPTIP have advised Emiola, who petitioned the agency over alleged child abandonment by Kaita, to seek legal action against the star.
Emiola had approached NAPTIP for intervention over the issue of alleged abandonment of her and her child by Kaita, but the agency has concluded that the matter is not within their purview.
This is contained in NAPTIP’s directive, dated February 20, to Forthright Chambers, Area 11, Garki, Abuja, which petitioned the agency on behalf of Emiola.
The directive, which was signed by Arinze Mbanefo on behalf of NAPTIP director-general, Mrs Julie Ukaa, explained that the body cannot wade into the matter because Emiola was not legally married to Kaita.
The directive noted: “It is our view that the agency lacks the mandate to treat the case, owing to the fact that the relationship between Mr Sani Kaita and your client, Esther Emiola is not that of a spouse or married couple (not legally married) as envisaged under Section 16 of the Violence Against Persons Prohibition (VAPP) Act, 2015.
“I am further directed to advise that you kindly seek redress for allegation against Mr Sani Kaita by exploring other legal means and or civil action.”
