Samuel Ogazi Opens Outdoor Season with Victory at Tiger Track Classic

Nigerian sprinter Samuel Ogazi made a triumphant return to the track on Saturday, clocking an impressive 44.98 seconds to win the men’s 400m at the Tiger Track Classic in Auburn.

The performance marked Ogazi’s first 400m race of the 2024 season and his first competition since running a 300m race indoors earlier in January. Despite the lengthy layoff, the 19-year-old showcased superb form, dominating the field with a strong finish to dip under the 45-second barrier.

Erving Pearson followed in second place with a time of 45.32s, while Xai Ricks claimed third in 45.58s in what was a highly competitive race.

Ogazi’s victory signals a promising start to his outdoor campaign as he builds towards a crucial season that could include appearances at major international competitions later in the year.

Speaking after the race, Ogazi expressed satisfaction with his performance, noting the importance of starting the season on a positive note. “It feels good to be back out there and get a solid time. There’s a lot more to come,” he said.
