Samuel Fasema, Nigerian Cyclist Who Rode Bicycle From Lagos To Maiduguri Back To Lagos, Seek Guinness Book Of Record Attention

Nigerian Cyclist, Samuel Fasema has said he will be taking his feat of riding on a bicycle for 19 days from Lagos to Maiduguri back to Guinness Book of Record, Sports247 reports.

Fasema, a former Nigerian International cyclist embarked on a 19 day journey from Lagos to Maiduguri back to Lagos, covering a distance of 3,776.03 kilometres.

Fasema started the ride from Yaba Development Council on January 19 and returned to Lagos via Berger, Third mailand bridge before terminating at Fadeyi, Lagos on Saturday, 8 February 2025.

He was welcomed by fellow cysclists, the Nigeria Cyclist Federation family led by the President , Femi Thomas and other well meaning Nigerians.

Speaking after the rare feat, Samuel Fasema said the ride is for peace and unity, against drug abuse, and promised to immortalized the feat by registering the achievement with Guinness Book of World Records.

“I thank God I was able to achieve this, it was easy. Some never believed I would be able to ride to Maiduguri and back but I did. I am looking at going a step forward by registering for the Guinness Book of Records soon,” he said.

The cyclist also share a bit of his challenges he overcame before he could achieve the feat.

” So many challenges was encountered, from mechanicals due to bad roads and more… I kept on moving, not giving up. God made it possible” Samuel wrote on his Facebook page.

In similar vein, Nigeria Cycling Federation, NCF, through a board member, Femi Thomas has praised Samuel Fasema, describing it as a way of promoting the enormous benefits of the sport.

Femi Thomas, who is also the Chairman of FT Cycle Care Cycling Club, the club Samuel Fasema is representing, said this is time for corporate bodies to join forces with the federation in discovering more talents in cycling.

“What Samuel did is very remarkable; no one has done it in the history of this country. We will continue to encourage him and hope that the private sector can come in and support the federation to discover more Samuels,” Femi said.

The Captain FT Cycle Care Cycling Club, Francis Agbo, expressed his happiness for the success of a teammate, also call on the corporate world to support the cyclist with an ambassadorial award to serve as a beacon of hope to athletes who go the extra mile in showcasing Nigeria in a good light.
