Ahead of the 2024 African Games Qualifiers, Samuel Ajayi, the Head Coach of Nigeria Women’s Senior Volleyball Team, has unveiled a strategic roster of 12 players set to represent the nation in Lagos.
The qualifiers are scheduled to take place from January 4th to 8th at the National Stadium in Lagos, Nigeria.

In a bid to secure qualification and break a medal drought that dates back to 2003, Ajayi has curated a diverse squad blending experience and youth.
The selected players include five seasoned individuals, five U21 players, and two U17 players, creating a harmonious mix that aims to bring dynamism and skill to the court.
The responsibility of leading the team falls on the capable shoulders of Ijeoma Ukpabi, who has been named the captain, bringing her wealth of experience to guide the squad.
Jummai Bitrus has been appointed as the assistant captain, adding leadership depth to the team.
The final women’s list comprises a formidable lineup of talents, featuring Ijeoma Ukpabi (Captain), Sharon Achi, Aliyah Usman, Maryam Ibrahim, Mirabel Onyegwu, Happy Wushilang, Blessing Unekwe, Deborah Chukwu, Ifunanya Udeagbala, Kelechi Ndukauba, Albertina Francis, and Jummai Bitrus.
The coaching duo of Samuel Ajayi, serving as the Head Coach, and Ezechukwu Oguamalam, the Assistant Coach, will be at the helm of the team’s preparations and strategic planning for the qualifiers.
As the athletes gear up for the intense competition, the nation eagerly anticipates their performance with hopes of not only securing qualification but also clinching a coveted medal.
