Samjason FC: A Grassroots Club that Groom, Mentor Players To Stardom

There is no doubt that Lagos has numbers of grassroots football clubs in Nigeria but only a few of them can groom, nurture and mentor players to stardom. It is a general belief that some club owners establish a club for their own selfish interest while some purposely formed a club to gain popularity at the detriment of the players and backroom staff.

Aside from this, there are some club owners that would poach players when there are football competitions and immediately they are out or win the tournament, the Players would go back to their various clubs.

Samjason Football Club may not be popular as other grassroots football clubs in Lagos but the club has carved a niche for itself in the area of grooming, nurturing, and mentoring raw talented Players to reach the heights of their footballing career.

In an exclusive interview with the Chairman of Samjason FC, Samuel Uchenna Eke explained that his club is unique in the sense that any player that comes to the club would be groomed, refined, nurtured, and the key to the club philosophy before such players can be thrown to the transfer market.

A soft-spoken football administrator revealed that since the club was formed in 2013, more players have been nurtured and played in Nigeria professional football league and outside the shore of the country.

“Samjason FC is known in Alimosho and some part of Lagos.we have featured in Lagos FA Cup three times in the past and other state competitions. The club has been doing well since inception and I am very grateful to God that most of our players that sold to professional clubs within and outside Nigeria are currently doing well.

Let me say we a player like Daniel Batholomew who is currently playing for Gokulam-Kerela FC in India,we also have Roland Rotua who is now in the Benin Republic. Kalu Okechukwu is playing for Sokoto United and Tunde Adediran who is also plying his trade with Lobi Stars. There are many players that we have sponsored their education and empowered them too in terms of vocational works,” he said.

Eke said not only Lagos based Players were recruited in the club noted that there are some players from Enugu, Bauchi, Kano, Abia, Osun, and Abuja who are part of the club.

“Presently we have 32 Players in the club. What we do in our club is that we give every player chance to play and if you are good enough, we would absorb such Players,” he added.
