RYLA CAMP UPDATE: Lagos Youth Council Leader Endorses Rotary Club’s Four Codes For Human Progress, Development

Chairman, Lagos State chapter of National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Engineer Adigun Ibrahim Olalekan (MNSE) has lent a voice of support to four key words that propel the human development initiatives of Rotary Club International.

Sports247.ng was present as Engineer Olalekan made the bold assertion while addressing guests, officials and attendees at district 9112’s maiden Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA).

The academy, which opened last Saturday at Sea School, off Liverpool Quay in Apapa, Lagos, ends at 3pm this Sunday, ahead of which Olalekan said each attendee will learn new ideas about living a productive life.

He added that each of the 294 attendees, now fondly called RYLArians, will gain immensely from the officials who will take them through several human angle topics and physical drills for one week on the island.

However, the renowned engineer and graduate of Lagos State University (LASU) stressed that the teenagers, youths, and adolescents present in the camp must always listen to the instructors and obey them, in order to assimilate everything they are taught.

Olalekan started with a philosophical declaration, as he said: “Mentorship is a two-way thing.

“It involves seeking guidance and offering your own insight into a circle of learning and growth that benefits everyone.

“There is a magic that can be created through global and local networks. That’s why Rotary connects individuals across the continents, cultures and communities; strengthening a pact of collaboration and support.”

He went on to reveal that the attendees at RYLA Camp 2024 will also gain many progressive ideas from a youth and human development code, which he tagged Rotary’s 4-Ts.

Olalekan expatiated: “This global perspective is crucial for young leaders of today.
“This magic of fortune is greatly dependent on Rotary Club’s four-Ts … treasure, time, talent and thinking.

“Talent is a natural ability you have and is worth exhibiting. Time is what we have all sacrificed in order to be here.

“It is what you use to be present where necessary at the right moment; while putting aside all other demands and activities.

“Thinking is the ingenuity of something. This is seen in what brought about the existence of RYLA. They came together with this idea of creating a programme that would have a beneficial impact on growth for everyone.

“Treasure is money that has been invested heavily in this RYLA … in order to create lasting values for many young people.”

The NYCN crusader concluded with optimism that this year’s RYLArians would have pleasant stories to tell when the week-long camp closes on Sunday.

“As you continue with this programme over the days and move forward in your endeavours, time will improve the lessons you gather from now on.

“To achieve those targets, let us commit ourselves to unleashing the good potentials of our youths.

“With creative magic as our guide, we can shape a future that is bright, inclusive and full of promise,” Olalekan submitted with a tone of enthusiasm.
