RYLA 2024 Participant Esther Oyewunmi Clinches Three Major Awards During Her School’s Graduation Ceremony

One of the participants at the recent Rotary Youth Leadership Academy (RYLA 2024), Oyewunmi Omolara Esther emerged with a haul of three major awards on her graduation day.

Sports247.ng reports that Miss Oyewunmi was among the outstanding performers at the recent RYLA 2024, which took place at Sea School, off Liverpool Quay in Apapa, Lagos and she has now taken her majestic strides back to her alma mater.

Incidentally, the articulate lass was one of ten students sponsored by Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa to RYLA 2024, which happened to be the first edition to be organised by the new district 9112 of the international humanitarian organisation.

It was also symbolic that she had earlier been sponsored to RYLA 2023 at NYSC Camp, Agege, Lagos by Rotary Club of Maryland under district 9110, but was cleared to also attend this year’s edition after writing a very captivating essay about the academy’s benefits.

Her outstanding qualities again shot to the fore on Saturday at this year’s graduation of students from Will-B Excellence Secondary School, Ikotun, Lagos, where she happens to be the immediate past head girl.

In the course of the day’s activities, witnessed live by sports247.ng reporter, Miss Oyewunmi was declared best prefect, most active student and most disciplined graduand in one swoop.

MC of the day, Pastor Olusanmi Oriyomi, who is also the school’s staff coordinator, further pointed out while introducing Miss Oyewunmi for her valedictory speech that she was the immediate past president of both Press Club and Interact Club.

Subsequently, in a dramatic and symbolic show of appreciation for having molded her into a rare gem, Esther Oyewunmi presented on behalf of her parents, who were both present, a customised framed wall clock gift to the school’s proprietor, Elder Williams Folorunsho Olaoye (aka The Caretaker).

Miss Oyewunmi declared in an interview afterwards with sports247.ng: “I am grateful for what I gained during my days as a student at Will-B Excellence Secondary School and to everyone who supported me all through the years.

“I thank my classmates, my fellow prefects, all the teachers and staff, as well as our former Press Club coordinator, Mr Sam O’Femi Fasetire.

“I am most especially grateful to the director for the fatherly love he showed me, and to the principal, Mr Gboyega Adeuyi, who always disciplined me with love and gave me money when I needed it.

“I am also grateful to my parents for standing by me in thick and thin, providing for all my needs through the years. I pray that God will reward them in His own special way, and that they shall reap the fruits of their labour.”

Along the line, she chipped in recognition for the school’s Interact Club coordinator, Mrs Noreen Olupitan and her assistant, Mrs Nnenna Ogazi.

Oyewunmi thanked them for also leading her on the right path towards emerging as the next head girl from the school to gain recognition from Rotary Club of Ikeja-Alausa, after Miracle Innocent won a RYLA scholarship in 2021.
