The head coach of Nigeria’s female cricket national team, John Harry has declared that the upcoming series against Rwanda will set his side in the right frame of mind ahead of the ICC Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
Sports247.ng gathered that Nigeria host Rwanda in the East African country’s ODI from this Friday, January 25 at the new oval of Abuja National Stadium, and Harry says it is a good start to their preparations.
Harry also pointed out that victory against Rwanda will place Nigeria higher than the visitors in the International Cricket Council rankings.
He added that, considering that the one-week series is a ranking event, it would see Nigeria get an impact on the table.
The coach expressed optimism of success against Rwanda, adding that the event will kick start his preparation ahead of the qualifiers, which come up May in Zimbabwe.
Harry added: “This is an ICC ranking event and once we beat Rwanda, we will automatically be higher than them on the list.
“Due to our recent strives, the ICC has invited us to participate in the World Cup qualifier, and this is a preparation for that event.
“So, we are not taking it as a regular friendly, but doing our best to ensure we make a statement against our visitors.
“This is going to be an eye opener for other countries who just feel that the tournament is an invitational only and see no reason to make it.
“When they see the quality of the event and are aware that the event would help their scorecard in ICC, am sure that they won’t reply in the negative next time.”
