Rugby President’s Cup Final Holds Saturday

The final of the 2018 Rugby President Cup will hold on Saturday between Barewa Club of Kaduna and Cowrie Club of Lagos, sports247.ng reports.

Barewa, who are the defending champions, have already declared their burning ambition to overcome their old rivals and pick top spot once again in this year’s edition of the championship.

Martin Crawford’s side, who have won the Northern League of Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) in four straight seasons, want to bring their dominance to beat on the Lagos-based side as well.

Both clubs, which have the highest number of home-based players in the Nigerian national team, The Stallions, will aim to outwit each other in an unexpectedly star-studded game.
Stallions’ coach, Bronson Weir is expected to be present and use the match to assess new players to be invited to the national team.

Cowrie players remember how Barewa defeated them eight points to seven in last year’s final at Old Parade Grounds, Abuja and will hope to avenge that loss on Saturday at the main bowl of Lagos National Stadium.

Cowrie RFC’s team manager, Dele Coker said he is confident that his team has what it takes to defeat Barewa.

Coker affirmed that the array of vastly talented players in his team has helped them win the Lagos league for seven years, and believes they will get another victory on Saturday.

He retorted: ”Very few squads in the country can boast of talents Cowrie has and against Racing and Police in the Lagos League.
“They showed excellent composure and a clinical edge and I expect them to improve on that.”
