Rugby Action Resumes in South West League As Top Teams Vie For Dominance

After a brief hiatus due to nationwide protests, the Nigeria Rugby Football Federation (NRFF) South West Rugby League resumes this weekend, with high stakes in both the men’s and women’s divisions.

Before the pause, Racing RFC held the top position in the men’s group, while Gosar Ladies RFC led the women’s division. As the competition heats up again, all eyes are on the teams as they battle for supremacy in Matchday 3.

Racing RFC, currently leading the men’s standings with ten points, is set to face off against Eco 11 RFC, aiming to maintain their grip at the top of the table. Hot on their heels is Cowrie RFC, just one point behind, who will clash with a rejuvenated Nigeria Police RFC squad eager to continue their upward momentum.

Another exciting match will see Gosar RFC take on Ogun State Kings in what promises to be a fiercely contested game.

In the women’s division, the battle continues as Eco 11 RFC is scheduled to play against Nigeria Police Women’s RFC. Both teams are looking to close the gap on the leaders, Gosar Ladies RFC, who will sit out this weekend with a bye. Gosar Ladies currently lead the women’s standings with six points, setting the pace for the competition as the other teams scramble to catch up.

Dr. Ademola Are, President of the NRFF, commended all the teams for their discipline and sportsmanship throughout the league. He emphasized the importance of maintaining this conduct as the league progresses and teams prepare for the national championship later in the year.

“These matches are not just about winning points but also about building the character and spirit of rugby in Nigeria,” Dr. Are remarked. “As we move forward, I urge all teams to continue upholding the values of respect and fair play that define our sport.”

With the return of rugby action, fans can look forward to an exhilarating weekend as the best teams in the South West region showcase their skills and determination on the field.
