Lagos State stand still as Rotary Club of Ikeja Alausa on Saturday, February 18th celebrate Rotary Day of Service with the Nigerian Amputee Football National Team.
The Rotary Day at the United Nation, February 23rd, celebrates two organizationsโ shared vision for peace and highlights the critical humanitarian activities that Rotary and United Nations lead around the world.
This year, as always, Rotary Day of Service offers us the chance to have an impact in our community, build long-term partnerships in service, increase interest in membership, and improve Rotary’s image.
In the bid to mark the special day, The Rotary Club of Alausa put together an idea with a day full of sporting activities at the football playing ground of Olusosun Primary School, Ojota, Lagos.
The robust event had in attendance the Nigerian Special Eagles, which is the national team of the Amputee Football Federation of Nigeria along with their technical crew. The major highlight of the day saw an exhibition game between two teams. Team Peace Building and team Conflict Prevention took the center stage on the day. The game which ended in a goalless draw under regulation time led to a penalty shootout; having Peace Building emerging champions of the competition after the shootout.
Also, part of the activities of the day was aerobic exercises. This time, Rotarian in their numbers, along with guests and fans at the events, participated in full blast. The amputee federation technical crew also were not missing in action.
After a joyous and successful day, the President of Rotary Club of Alausa, ๐ง๐ผ๐ป๐ป๐ฎ ๐ข๐ด๐๐๐ถ๐ฒ ๐ข๐ณ๐๐ฎ๐๐ถ๐ฎ has this to say.
“We are happy for the success recorded today. As directed by the district, every rotary club, between the hours of 7am and 9am on Saturday should carry out sporting activities to celebrate this year’s Rotary Day of Service.
The President also emphasized the rationale behind the club celebrating the specials day with the Amputee Football Federation
“We are happy and a lot of people were asking why we picked the Nigerian Amputee Football Federation. We are just happy having them. The game today was exciting, seeing people coming in to celebrate with us.
“We pick them because of what rotary international preach; inclusiveness. We also know that rotary is for everybody no matter where, what and how you are and that’s what Rotary Club of Alausa displayed today. We want to thank everybody today for what we called a great success. We see people watching live online
