Chelsea’s Nigerian-born midfielder, Ross Barkley is sharing pressure at Stamford Bridge with former Super Eagles winger, Victor Moses, as the former Everton dazzler has come under pressure from The Blues’ gaffer, Maurizio Sarri.
Sports247.ng can report that, while Moses is certain to leave Stamford Bridge in the January transfer window, Barkley will have to step up his efforts with the team in order to avoid redundancy in 2019.
This follows a terse warning from Sarri, who says Barkley still needs to improve, despite generally performing well in Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Barkley was in the squad in place of Mateo Kovacic, it was N’Golo Kante who stole the show when he scored five minutes after the break to give The Blues all three points.
Afterwards, Sarri praised Kante for his forward movement and battling mobility during the game at Selhurst Park, which led to the goal, but said Barkley needs to work on similar technique.
Sarri said: “I think that it was a very good movement and with the right timing. He [Kante] is so improving in this kind of movement.
“When the opponents defended with very low intensity, it is difficult for he striker and wingers to find the spaces so we have to arrive with a midfielder. I think now we have to work on Barkley for this movement.
“I think [he played] well but sometimes, he drove the ball too much. He lost two or three dangerous balls and I think it was better to move the ball quicker. Generally, in the 85 minutes he played, he did very well.”
