Super Eagles Manager Gernot Rohr has expressed satisfaction with the way his wards dispatched Seychelles 3-1 on Friday.
Nigeria ended up as Group E winners with 13 points in the 2019 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Odion Ighalo converted a penalty to give Nigeria the lead in the 35th minute but Roddy Melanie drew Seychelles level seven minutes later following a costly mistake from goalkeeper Francis Uzoho.
However, Galatasaray’s Henry Onyekuru headed home in the 52nd minute and Levante’s Moses Simon also scored in stoppage time to give Nigeria their fourth win in six games.
“We tried to attack from the flanks. The first goal came from the penalty spot and their equaliser was an error. Anyone could have made the mistake,” Gernot Rohr explained at a Press Conference attended by Footballlive.ng on Friday.
“In the second half, we scored two great goals. The players did the job.”
The Super Eagles ended up as Group E winners with 13 points from six games.
“We wanted to top the group and did that efficiently, which is very important for FIFA Ranking and the Nations Cup.”
“We made a lot of mistakes in the construction of the game. We have to improve.
Friday’s game afforded the coach the chance to field fringe players with some first teamers also proving their mettle. Henry Onyekuru took his chance very well with a well taken goal while substitute Moses Simon offered a great flair and also needed a breathtaking strike. Jamilu Collins provided two sumptous assists.
“I saw some interesting players,” Rohr continued referring to the contribution of Onyekuru, Simon and Jamilu.
“It was important to play this game after four months of inactivity. The last time we had a full house was in South Africa when the team played a 1-1 draw.
“The players complained about the weather. Some of them just recovered from injuries. I’m happy with the quality on display,” the gaffer added.
