Gernot Rohr has saluted the leadership of Ahmed Musa, who is again standing in for the absent Mikel Obi for the all-important AFCON double-header against Libya.
Saudi Arabia-based star Ahmed Musa has led the Super Eagles to two crucial 2019 AFCON wins in the absence of Mikel – last month in Seychelles and on Saturday against Libya.
“I have found a new captain, Ahmed Musa,” announced Rohr.
“He is leading the team in another way.
“He’s younger, fresher than Mikel.”
Interestingly, the big win over Libya in Uyo was a befitting 26 birthday gift for Ahmed Musa,, who assisted Odion Ighalo to complete his hat-trick.
Rohr also announced the team who beat Libya 4-0 in Uyo were younger than the one who featured at the World Cup in Russia.
“The average age (vs Libya was 24 years, we were younger than at the World Cup without Elderson, Mikel and Victor Moses,” he commented.
“Eagles are on the right course.”
