Rohr Praises Eagles’ Players For Holding Their Nerves

Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has praised his players for holding heir nerves to finally win 3-2 against Libya in Tuesday night’s 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at Stade Taïeb Mhiri in Sfax, Tunisia.

The Mediterranean Knights stormed back from two goals down to draw level, and sports247.ng reports that Rohr admits it was a huge test of his side’s character, and says they will keep fighting.

Rohr admits that Libya’s fightback was quite scary, hence his warning to his players that, though they are top of the table, there is still work to do to win their remaining two matches.

He, however, promised that the players will not lose focus and vowed to ensure he workls hard not to allow them get carried away by the historic home and away victories against Libya.

The Franco-German gaffer went on to absolve Elche of Spain keeper, Francis Odinaka Uzoho of any blame for the goals he conceded in Nigeria’s hard fought 3-2 win over Libya.

Uzoho has been criticised for his shaky ball handling and poor judgment of crosses during the game, especially after his lame punch fell at the feet of a Libyan player to level up from two goals down.

However, rather than scold the 19-year-old, who is currently on a season long loan deal to Elche in the Spanish second division from Deportivo La Coruna, Rohr insists the youngster is still learning the ropes.

Rohr further pointed out that the defenders should share in the blame for both goals, but admitted that Uzoho was nervous following Libya’s fight back from two goals down to bring scores to 2-2 in the second half.

Rohr explained: “Uzoho is young only 19 and sometimes your have to forgive him for some mistakes.

“That was a difficult game for him, he didn’t have so much to do in the beginning ‎then he conceded the goals and he was a bit nervous later on.

“It’s not only the goalkeeper. The defenders made some mistakes, because Libya scored two goals to comeback due to their fight and it didn’t come to us as a surprise.”
