Super Eagles technical adviser, Gernot Rohr has opened up on the factors that led him into handing a first ever senior national team invitation to Villarreal of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze.
Sports247.ng gathered that the Franco-German is enthusiastic about handing Chukwueze his Eagles’ breakthrough, as he is in awe of the lad’s breathtaking speed, deft left foot and good balance on the ball.
Rohr added that Chukwueze’s ability to hold his own among the glitterati of stars in La Liga shows that the Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup winner with the Golden Eaglets has something to offer the Nigerian squad.
Heading into next Saturday’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifier and friendly against Uganda three days later, in which Chukwueze is expected to get his senior debut, Rohr said he expects big things from The Yellow Submarine youngster.
Chukwueze was called to the Eagles’ camp for the first time since representing Nigeria at under-17 and under-20 levels after a month of thrills with Villarreal in the Europa League and Copa Del Rey.
On Sunday, Chuwueze made his La Liga bow and, after a solid outing of 90 full minutes, was rated the best player on the pitch for his team in a 1-1 draw against Levante, much to Rohr’s admiration.
Rohr enthused: “Chukwueze has a good left foot, is quick, has a low centre of gravity, which gives him a very good balance.
“He can deliver and score. We need a player like him to give us balance in attack and he can also play through the middle.”
