The Rivers Whales Teqball Team, on Monday, July 22nd, displayed their skills in a series of exhibition games as part of activities to mark the opening ceremony of this year’s Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic Rector’s Cup.

The two-week tournament, played at the Polytechnic Campus in Rumuola, Port Harcourt, witnessed the presence of the institution’s Rector, Dr. Moses Neebee, Director of Sports, Engineer Daye Barango, heads of various departments of the Polytechnic as well as officials of the Rivers State Teqball Association.
On his part, the Vice Chairman, Rivers State Teqball Association, Mr. Halim Zaccah Adebola promised the sum of N100,000 to the male football department that eventually wins the competition while also pledging N20,000 for the best player of the Rector’s Cup.
The Rector, Moses Neebee, thanked Mr. Halim Zaccah for his financial support and assured of the inclusion of Teqball as part of their school sports.
Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic field was the first pitch used by the Rivers Whales Teqball team for their training before the Yakubu Gowon Stadium side-pitch was allotted to them by the Rivers State Government.
Teqball is played on a specially-curved table. In a table tennis way, the players hit a football back and forth with any part of their body except arms and hands. It can be played between two players as a singles event or between four players as a doubles event. The game is represented at the international level by the International Teqball Federation (FITEQ).
