The second matchday of the NPFL Championship Playoffs was marked by excitement as Remo Stars faced off against Rivers United.
The defending champions, Rivers United, were able to avoid defeat in a dramatic finish during their match against Remo Stars which ended in a 2-2 draw. Despite leading for most of the game thanks to Nyima Nwagua’s first-half opener, United almost lost the match due to an impressive second-half performance by the Sky Blues.
Remo Stars had previously opened their 2023 NPFL Super 6 playoffs with a thrilling 2-2 draw against Enyimba, and once again found themselves in a closely contested match on matchday two.
The Sky Blues demonstrated their ability to make a comeback, thanks in part to an inspired substitution made by their manager, Daniel Ogundamodede. Lekan Dayo emerged as the hero of the match, and second-half substitute Adams Olamilekan also played a significant role.
Dayo scored the equalizer before unleashing a powerful shot from 30 yards out to give Remo a well-deserved lead. However, their celebration was short-lived, as Rivers United was able to equalize just one minute later.
