Rivers United beat MFM FC 3-0 at the Sharks Stadium on Saturday to secure a place in the Governor Nyesom Wike preseason tournament final
Godwin Aguda opened the scoring inside twenty minutes for United, when he latched on to a pinpoint pass across the back from Bobby Clement to score.
Bobby Clement increased the tally six minutes later when he latched on to Konan Rufin’s cross to go pass Osayi Kingdom in goal for MFM FC.
Rivers United’s momentum and belief was clear to see as they showed beautiful possessive football to the admiration of watchers.
Theophilus Afelokhai stepped up and scored from the penalty spot to make it 3-0 after just the 36th minute of the match to secure his second goal of the tournament after Konan Ruffin was bundled to the ground inside the goal area.
What’s Next?
Rivers United have set up a final tie with Bayelsa United after the “Creek boys” shocked tournament’s favourites Lobi Stars 2-0 in the first Semi-final match.
The final match will be played on Sunday 15th November by 3 pm and will be graced by dignitaries with the Executive Governor of Rivers State Barrister Nyesom Wike as a special guest of honour.
