Nigerian football clubs Rivers United and Bendel Insurance are gearing up for challenging matchups in the second preliminary round of the CAF Confederation Cup.

Rivers United is set to take on Etoile Filante from Burkina Faso in a bid to advance to the next stage of the competition. Etoile Filante secured their spot by playing to a goalless draw against Senegal’s Casa Sports Ziguinchor.

The Burkina Faso club qualified based on the away goals rule, having earned a 1-1 draw in the first leg in Senegal. Rivers United, on the other hand, received a bye in the first stage, allowing them a direct passage to the second preliminary round.
In a parallel development, Bendel Insurance, Nigeria’s second representative in the tournament, will face RS Berkane.
Bendel Insurance earned their qualification through an intense penalty shootout victory against Algeria’s ASO Chlef. This triumph followed a 1-1 aggregate draw in the second leg of the previous round.

Notably, Rivers United and Bendel Insurance remain the sole Nigerian clubs in CAF Competitions, following the elimination of Enyimba and Remo Stars from the Champions League.
