In a courtesy visit of the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Area, Hon. Samuel Nwanosike to the office of Rivers State Commissioner for Sports, Hon. Boma Iyaye, grassroot sports development was on the front burner.
Hon. Nwanosike applauded the Rivers State Sports Commissioner for his support to Ikwerre Local Government Area in Sports.
He stated that the use of Adokiye Amiesiemaka Stadium for the training of Sports men and women from Ikwerre ethnicity was appreciative.
Hon. Nwanosike unrevealed the blue print of his plans for Sports grassroot development the indigenes and non indigenes to the Rivers State Commissioner.
Sports like Football, Swimming, Badminton, racing, basketball, table tennis, lawn tennis, cycling and wrestling were listed by the Ikwerre local Government Area boss as the key sports to engage the youths to promote the spirit of Sportsmanship.
“The fight of insecurity started by his Excellency, Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State has yielded wonderful results as we (Ikwerre Local Government Area) has reclaimed the youth of our community and we believe Sports is one area that they can try their hands and be useful to the society.” said Hon. Nwanosike.
The Ikwerre Local Government Area boss expressed joy in building a sports lounge that has different courts for different sports and so appealed to Hon. Iyaye to help to appoint a trained coach and instructor to manage the football team and other sports that was inaugurated by his constituency.
In response, Hon. Boma Iyaye was elated and affirmed that the Chairman of Ikwerre Government Area has done very well in not just building a sports Lounge but a sports complex.
Hon. Iyaye advised that all requests from the Ikwerre Local Government Area Chairman, Hon Nwanosike should be forwarded to the Sports Secretary who will channel it to the sports ministry for approval and disbursement.
